Zoom In believes that voluntary work is important,
because of the benefits it brings to both the volunteer and the community.
Our aim is to maximise both these benefits through the way we work
with volunteers.
We believe:
that volunteers are a valuable resource in the community
and should be treated as such
that each volunteer has a unique contribution to
make as well as individual needs to be satisfied through their
volunteering
that Zoom In will benefit according to the level
of investment we make in volunteers, and the resources we commit
to enhancing the involvement of volunteers.
We actively seek to:
review regularly our procedures for the recruitment,
selection and management of volunteers, in consultation with our
existing volunteers
review regularly, in consultation with our existing
volunteers, the quality of support and supervision we provide
recruit volunteers of both sexes, all races and
all cultural/social backgrounds, without discriminating on the
grounds of class, disability, sexuality, marital status, or responsibility
for dependents
encourage volunteers to take an active role in
the planning and running of Zoom In’s activities
encourage volunteers to develop their skills, offering
opportunities that will be useful and beneficial to them, and
that suit their individual interests, abilities and needs
use clear recruitment procedures, volunteer job
descriptions and policies with regard to equality and confidentiality
offer full induction and training to enable volunteers
to work at Zoom In, and provide ongoing support and supervision
follow up on the progress of our volunteers, providing
regular reviews and opportunities for volunteers to give feedback,
and where appropriate, acting on the feedback we receive
offer safe working environments, insurance, and
full health and safety information
treat our volunteers with respect.
We will not place volunteers in situations
where the role of the volunteer:
is part of a profit-seeking service
arises from an element of compulsion or requirement
by a third party (volunteering should be voluntary)
substitutes or jeopardises the work of paid workers
or undermines their conditions of service
puts their health and safety, or that of others,
at risk
contravenes the policies of Zoom In on equal opportunities,
confidentiality, child protection, or health and safety.
