Leyla Güler
I did my first photography course at Zoom In, when my Dad gave me an SLR camera for my sixteenth birthday. Ten years on, and I wanted to get more involved with the organisation that inspired me to develop my passion for photography; so have been volunteering at Zoom In since graduating from university in May 2008. I worked with teenagers on Zoom In’s From Seeing To Showing summer school by dedicating a full five weeks which I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of! It was so rewarding to see each individual develop over the weeks and be there for their whole process of learning. I felt like I was supporting creative talent and giving something back to those who had originally encouraged me. This gave me so much satisfaction and in turn helped me to realise the career path I wanted to take. I have met so many wonderful artistic people and enjoy the monthly meetings, assisting on evening courses, whilst learning at the same time. I feel really inspired and appreciated by working with such a dedicated and creative team. It is also really nice socialising with others who have a similar passion for photography and community work. I am a documentary and events photographer, so Zoom In has helped me to develop my skills in community work which led me onto other opportunities within arts education. It’s great, I don’t know why it took me ten years to get involved again? Some of the projects I have been
involved with include: Working with teenagers
who were part of From Seeing To Showing 2008, tutor assisting on documentary photography evening classes, mounting exhibited work and preparing exhibition, lLearning how to approach teaching and class schedules,
Medium Format and Pinhole photography, being part of the fundraising team. To
