Ordinary Places

Zoom In, the Clapham-based photography and education centre, will be welcoming Spring 2003 with ‘Ordinary Places,’ a show by photographer Richard Heeps.

Heeps’ work uses colour to find beauty in ordinary things, drawing attention to familiar places and objects habitually overlooked.

He is drawn by traces of individuality and timelessness, creating images at odds with the lurid, consumerist emblems of contemporary Britain. Many of the locations depicted no longer exist, adding to the mystery of the images. Heeps’ work oscillates between art and documentary; his pictures are loaded with a sense of suspense, as he captures the moments between events, out of their ordinary sequence of associations.

He says,
“ Above all, I hope to invite an open and joyful response to the fabric of everyday life.”

‘ Ordinary Places’ runs from 12th March to 22nd April 2003.
