The Facilities at Zoom In
A guide to our Darkroom

Photograph by Jake Chapman Zoom In Work Experience Placement January 2010.

The darkrooms at Zoom In are made up of a large main room for printing, a smaller second room providing a separate space where you wont be disturbed while loading films or coating, and the drying / viewing area.

Our darkroom equipment consists of twelve enlargers. These are mainly Durst M670s, although we do have one LPL 7450 and a Durst Laborator 1200. Our enlargers cater for negatives from 35mm (well even 8x11mm!) to 5x4 large format. We use dish processing up to a size of 16"x20". In the drying area we have flat bed drying cabinets, a resin coated roller dryer and fibre-based dryers. If you would like to develop your own black and white films we provide all the tanks, spools, graduates and chemicals.

When you come in to use the darkroom we provide the necessary darkroom chemicals for print developing and/or film processing. We use either Ilford or, if Ilford is unavailable, Kodak chemicals.

When you use the darkroom there is always someone from Zoom In around who will set up the equipment and chemicals for you and will be on hand throughout the session.

If you have used darkrooms in the past but have maybe not have practiced for a while omit worry! At Zoom In we like to encourage everybody to get started again. So if you are feeling a little rusty or are just unsure about using our darkroom for the first time we offer members Assisted Darkroom Sessions or if you are really rusty you might like to attend a refresher course in Darkroom Printing

In addition to the darkroom facilities we also have a digital suite and a small studio room that can be used by our members.
