The Facilities at Zoom-In A Guide to our Darkrooms
The darkrooms at Zoom In are made up of a large main
room, a smaller second room and the drying area. By providing two
darkroom spaces we are able to offer our members a room for individual
use, should you want to be undisturbed, while enlarging prints.
This room also provides a separate space where you wont be disturbed
while loading films.
Our darkroom equipment consists of eight enlargers in the main
darkroom and an extra three in the second room. These are LPL
C7700's, Durst M670ęs, one LPL 7450 and a De vere 504. Our enlargers
cater for negatives from 35mm (well even 8x11mm!) to 5x4 large
format. We use dish processing up to a size of 16"x20". In the
drying area we have flat bed drying cabinets, a resin coated roller
dryer and fibre-based dryers. If you would like to develop your
own black and white films we provide all the tanks, spools, graduates
and chemicals.
When you come in to use the darkroom we provide the necessary
darkroom chemicals for print developing and/or film processing.
We use either Ilford or, if Ilford is unavailable, Kodak chemicals.
When you use the darkroom there is always someone from Zoom In
around who will set up the equipment and chemicals for you and
will be on hand throughout the session.
If you have used darkrooms in the past but have maybe not have
practiced for a while omit worry! At Zoom In we like to encourage
everybody to get started again. So if you are feeling a little
rusty or are just unsure about using our darkroom for the first
time we offer members Assisted
Darkroom Sessions or if you are really rusty you might like
to attend a refresher course in Darkroom
Printing
In addition to the darkroom facilities we also have a small
studio room that can be used by our members.
