Discover how darkroom techniques can really transform your photography. This black and white printing course will provide students with advanced photographic printing skills. You will discover many different types of fibre-based papers on the market and explore making creative use of variable contrast papers. You will be introduced to the exciting arts of film processing or develop previous skills still further through push processing techniques. You will learn to improve your composition in photography through selective printing, image manipulation, sepia toning, Solarising / Sabbatier printing and use of alternative, creative printing techniques.

Course Overview:

Who is the Darkroom Techniques course aimed at?
Darkroom Techniques is a specialist printing course and is aimed at students with a good knowledge of basic black and white photographic printing. If you have never done your own printing before we offer a Darkroom Introduction and Darkroom Basics or even our Basic Photography, which provides students with all they need to know to go on to Darkroom Techniques.

You may also want to take a look at our Creative Photography Course for a longer and more intensive course.

Progression Routes
Darkroom Techniques prepares students for academic study and vocational opportunities and our darkroom based Advanced Photography Skills courses such as Liquid Emulsion. You may also want to consider our Camera Techniques or Travel Photography courses.

When do we hold Darkroom Techniques classes?
Darkroom Techniques is either a weekend or an evening course, running over two weekend days or four weeknights. Please see our Photography Course Schedule for more details.
