Discovering Photography Skills

Beginners Courses courses at Zoom-In cater for both film and digital photographers, and are aimed at those of you new to photography and those with some basic experience wishing to brush up on your photographic abilities before moving on to our Intermediate courses. These 'Discovering Photography Skills' courses are designed as a comprehensive introduction to both film and digital photography. Both evening and weekend photography classes, tutorials and workshops provide all the photographic skills required to practice photography independently and also to lead on to our Intermediate courses.

Our two Intensive Courses will take you from Beginner level through to Intermediate levels of photographic study.

Camera Introduction
This jargon free introductory photography course will enable you to understand your 35mm SLR camera, and teach you how to use photographic techniques creatively. Camera Basics
This jargon-free camera skills course will enable you to fully understand your 35mm film or digital SLR camera, and learn how to use photographic techniques creatively. We will demystify light meters and exposure readings, aperture and shutter speed controls, depth of field, film and ISO rating. You will cover all the basics of manual camera control and you will learn how to use these techniques creatively. Basic Photography
This intensive beginners photography course examines in straightforward, jargon free terms how to understand your 35mm manual film SLR camera fully and how to make it work for you. You will cover manual camera controls such as exposure readings, aperture and shutter speeds and how to assess your negatives. In addition this course will provide you with a solid grounding in film, composition and photographic printing. Darkroom Introduction
Printing your own photographs is great fun and it is truly exciting to play around in the darkroom and watch your photographs appear like magic. Learn how to produce a perfect print from your negatives, rather than sending them off to the mini-lab! Darkroom Basics
Printing your own photographs is a great skill and it is fascinating to play around in the darkroom with chemicals and light sensitive paper and watch your photographs appear as if by magic. You will discover how to make test strips, contact sheets and how to produce quality prints. We will also explore exciting ways of manipulating basic printing techniques that enable you to improve on your original photograph. Film Processing
During this darkroom lesson you will learn how to process negatives. You will investigate how to creatively manipulate them using push or pull processing techniques, discovering what can be achieved with contrast and explore the subtle arts of chemicals and dilutions to alter the look of your final printed photographs.
