“A
great crash course in how to use my camera! Thanks I will definitely
come back and do the Camera Techniques when I am back from travelling.”
Tessa, 2004 |
This
jargon free and supportive introductory photography course will enable
you to understand your 35mm SLR camera, and teach you how to use photographic
techniques creatively. We will take the mystery out of manual camera
controls through an introduction to cameras exposure readings, aperture
and shutter speed controls, depth of field, film and ISO rating, loading
and unloading film and composition.
This course is an introduction to photography;
by the end of the course you will understand basic elements of camera
control and know photographic terms and techniques and you will be
able to use them to your advantage. You will have the confidence and
enthusiasm to continue practicing with the basic camera skills you
have learnt or move on to one of our more in depth courses.
Please see the Camera
Introduction Course Modules for more detail on what you will study
on this course.

Course Overview:
Who is the Camera Introduction
course aimed at?
Camera Introduction is a photography course for total beginners and
designed for both the beginner student, and those who wish to refresh
their previous photographic knowledge, whether you have a film or
digital SLR camera.
You may also be interested in some of our other camera classes such
as the Camera Basics class or Basic
Photography, which are also introductory courses in camera skills
for total beginners. You may also want to consider a longer course
containing camera and darkroom lessons such as our Creative
Photography course.
Progression Routes
This introductory guide to cameras and photography
will provide you with the photographic camera skills necessary to
progress to our Developing
Photography Skills camera lessons such as Camera
Techniques or Travel
Photography.
You may also wish to go on to learn how to make the most out of your
photographs by learning to do your own printing on our
Darkroom Introduction or Darkroom
Basics. Please see our Photography
Course planner for more details.
Although this introductory course in cameras covers some of the same
elements as the Creative Photography many students attend this course
as a taster before moving on to study photography intensely on the
longer Creative
Photography course.

If you are thinking about buying a camera but would like to attend
the course first to get an idea of what camera to buy we offer students
