Basic Photography

Want to take better photographs? This is your basic guide to photography!

“A great course - informative & not at all intimidating for a beginner!”
Dave, 2002

“Very enjoyable course, nice people and taught me all the main things I wanted to know."
Nathaniel, Jan 2005

Beginners Photography coursesThis intensive beginners photography course examines in straightforward, jargon free terms how to understand your 35mm manual film SLR camera fully and how to make it work for you. You will cover manual camera controls such as exposure readings, aperture and shutter speeds and how to assess your negatives. In addition this course will provide you with a solid grounding in film, composition and photographic printing. Not only will you take better photographs, but you will also be able to improve on them still further by learning about darkroom printing techniques.

Please see the Basic Photography Course Modules for more detail on what you will study on this course.

Course Overview:

Who is the Basic Photography course aimed at?
Basic Photography is a basic guide to photography and is ideal for both beginners and those wishing to refresh their previous camera and darkroom knowledge, who use a film 35mm SLR camera.

If you are thinking about buying a camera but would like to attend the course first to get an idea of what camera to buy we offer students use of our cameras for the duration of the course. However if you are going to use one of our cameras it is necessary to join as a Zoom In member and provide a small fee and cash deposit in case of loss or breakage.
