Studio Lighting

Our Studio Lighting course will teach you how to use controlled lighting to your advantage across a range of types of photography.

“Really great course, small class, a lot of hands on, practical experience. I feel a lot more confident now. ”
Konstancja, November 2008

studio lighting class
This studio lighting course provides a thorough grounding in all you need to know about lighting subjects. You will discover how to creatively use tungsten lights, studio flash, understand hand held meters, meter readings and lighting positions. You will learn studio lighting techniques and will explore studio portraiture, still life and product shots.

Please see the Studio Lighting Course Modules for more details.

Course Overview:

Who is the Studio Lighting course aimed at?
Studio lighting is aimed at the amateur photographer who wants to further their creative photography skills, or those wishing to gain professional photography techniques. The Studio Lighting Workshop is an advanced lesson in photography and is ideal for those who have completed any of our Intermediate Photography camera-based courses such as Camera Techniques and those who have a good understanding of their 35mm SLR film or digital cameras manual controls.

If you have never really used your 35mm SLR film or digital camera on its manual settings before we would advise you to take either Camera Introduction, Camera Basics and even Basic Photography from our Beginners Courses, which provide students with a grounding in basic camera skills.

Progression Routes
Studio Lighting prepares students for academic study and vocational opportunities and our camera based Advanced Photography courses such as Medium Format. You may also want to consider our Camera Techniques, Darkroom Techniques or Travel Photography courses.

When do we hold Studio Lighting classes?
Studio Lighting is either a weekend or an evening course, running over one weekend day or two weeknights. Please see our Photography Course Schedule for more details.
