Medium Format Photography

Why move up to a larger format? Medium format offers significantly improved quality and can result in a whole new way of seeing and taking photographs.

“I really enjoyed learning news ways of seeing and photographing and I had a great day out.”
Kath, June 2004

medium format photography courseThe medium format photography course is a great fun day out on location where you will cover everything from the various types of medium format cameras, film backs and film loading, tripods, hand held light-meters, exposure readings and composition even in less desired weather conditions!

Please see the Medium Format Course Modules for more details on what you you will study on this course.

Course Overview:

Who is the Medium Format Photography course aimed at?
The Medium Format Photography course is suitable for those of you with a good understanding of 35mm manual camera control, who want to improve the quality of your photographs. You may be an amateur photographer who wishes to advance their photography or someone looking to gain professional photography skills.

The Medium Format course is an advanced lesson in photography and is ideal for those who have completed any of our Beginners Photography camera-based courses such as Camera Techniques and those who have a good understanding of their 35mm SLR film or digital cameras manual controls. If you have never really used your 35mm SLR film or digital camera on its manual settings before we would advise you to take either Camera Introduction, Camera Basics and even our Basic Photography from our Beginners Photography courses, which provides students with a grounding in basic camera skills.

Progression Routes
The Medium Format Photography workshop workshop prepares students for academic study and vocational opportunities and our Advanced Photography camera-based courses such as Studio Lighting or Large Format Photography. You may also want to consider our Camera Techniques, Darkroom Techniques or Travel Photography courses.

When do we hold Medium Format Photography classes?
Medium Format Photography is a weekend course, running over one weekend. Please see our Photography Course Schedule for more details.
