Course Modules

Duration of the course
Medium Format Photography is a one day workshop taking place over a weekend day. The course is made up of one module of approximately 6 hours. This session comprises the following:

Aim of the course
By the end of the course you will be able to use a Medium Format camera competently and understand how to use photographic techniques to achieve creative affects. You will be able to put new skills into practice and spend the remainder of the session shooting with a medium format camera on location under supervision and guidance.

Materials Needed for the course
Students will need:
We provide medium format cameras for this course but if you have your own you are more than welcome to use it. Just let us know what brand/model it is just to check that it will be appropriate. You will also need a roll of black & white and a roll of colour 120 film with an ISO appropriate for seasonal weather conditions.

  • Types of cameras
  • How to calculate exposures
  • Film and film loading
  • Composition

Objectives of Module: In this module you will learn what different medium format cameras are available and what cameras are the most suitable for your needs and interests. You will learn what films are available, use of film backs and you will practice loading film. You will learn how to use a hand held light meter and understand techniques for composition.

Practical Exercise
Going on location to shoot at least one roll of film.
