Large Format Photography
Course Modules

Duration of the course
Large Format Photography is a one day workshop taking place over a weekend day. The course is made up of one module of approximately 4-5 hours. This session comprises the following:

Aim of the course
By the end of the course you will be able to use a large format camera competently and understand how to use a light meter to get the correct exposure. You will understand the mechanics of the camera and how to achieve specialist techniques. You will be able to print from 5x4 photographic negatives understanding what considerations you need to make when printing large format.

Materials Needed for the course
Students will need:
We provide Large format cameras for this course but if you have your own you are more than welcome to use it. Just let us know what brand/model it is just to check that it will be appropriate.
25 Sheets of black and white photographic paper, which must be:
Resin Coated
Variable Contrast
Size 10"x8"
Finish can be matt, pearl or glossy, whichever you prefer
Do not open the packet of paper until inside the darkroom or it will be ruined!

Objectives of Module: In this module you will learn what large format cameras are available and what cameras are the most suitable for your needs. You will learn how to assemble cameras and consider lenses and bellow types. You will cover camera movements and perspective control through shifts and tilts. You will learn how to use a hand held light meter to achieve exposure calculation. You will also cover film loading, composition and final image printing.

Practical Exercise
Shoot film using large format cameras and print final image.
