If you love photographing people but want to know how to capture a really great portrait, this course is for you!
Portraiture is aimed at the amateur photographer who wants to further their Creative Photography skills, or those wishing to gain professional photography techniques. The Portraiture Workshop is an advanced lesson in photography and is ideal for those who have completed any of our Beginners Photography camera-based courses and those who have a good understanding of their 35mm SLR film or digital cameras manual controls. This course complements our Studio Lighting course and we recommend attending both to gain a thorough knowledge in lighting for portraits. If you have never really used your 35mm SLR film or digital camera on its manual settings before we would advise you to take either Camera Introduction, Camera Basics and even our Basic Photography from our Beginners Courses, which give students a grounding in basic camera skills. This Portraiture course provides a thorough grounding in all you need to know about formal and informal portraits both on location and in the studio. You will discover how to use available lighting for location portraiture and basic lighting techniques for studio portraiture (more about lighting can be found on our Studio Lighting course). You will learn Portraiture techniques and you will explore composition for portraiture. You may also want to take a look at our Studio Lighting, Medium Format Photography course or Camera Techniques.
By the end of the course you will be able set up portrait shots both on location and in the studio. You will be able to use photographic techniques and compositional aids to make the most out of your subjects. You will be able to photograph formal and informal portraits and understand what film choices to make given specific lighting conditions.
