Course synopsis: Pinhole Camera

Pinhole Camera

The Pinhole Photography course is suitable for those of you with a good understanding of 35mm manual camera control, who want to improve the quality of your photographs. You may be an amateur photographer who wishes to advance their photography or someone looking to gain Creative Photography skills in alternative photographic processes. The Pinhole Photography course is an in depth lesson in photography and is ideal for those who have completed any of our Beginners Photography camera based courses such as Camera Introduction, Camera Basics or Basic Photography and those who have a good understanding of their 35mm SLR film or digital cameras manual controls. If you have never really used your camera on its manual settings before we would advise you to take either Camera Introduction, Camera Basics or Basic Photography from our Beginners Photography courses, which provide students with a grounding in basic camera skills. The Pinhole Photography course is a fun way to learn and demystify the mechanics of your camera. Deliberately structured to help you understand your own camera better but also providing essential skills in those who wish to develop this old photographic technique in their photographic art work. You will cover everything from preparing your camera, constructing your camera using simple mathematical formula to taking meter readings and photographs and processing positive images from your negatives.

Objectives of the Module
In this module you will learn how to construct a simple camera. You will follow basic technical instruction (delivered in a deliberately non-jargon style) to understand the physics of camera construction. This process is invaluable in understanding and demystifying the mechanics of your own camera, making all the controls, numbers and measurements clear and logical, whilst also being great fun to do! You will evaluate your own cameras construction, whilst building your pinhole camera. You will make exposures and contact positive prints from paper negatives.
