Film Processing

There's much more to processing your films into negatives than simply dropping them in chemicals! Learn the techniques needed to start manipulating your images straight from the camera.

Course synopsis: Film Processing

During this darkroom lesson you will learn how to process negatives. You will investigate how to creatively manipulate them using push or pull processing techniques, discovering what can be achieved with contrast and explore the subtle arts of chemicals and dilutions to alter the look of your final printed photographs. You will learn how to use the charts and instructions on film packaging to achieve the result you want.

Aim of the course: Film Processing

By the end of the course you will be able to process negatives and identify the difference between films of different exposure and different development. You will be able to use the darkroom to process negatives by yourself.

Progression Routes

If you have never printed your own prints this course leads into our Darkroom Introduction or Darkroom Basics. If you have printed before this course will lead onto the Darkroom Techniques. Film Processing is also part of our introduction to photography courses enabling you to go on to learn how to make the most out of your photographs by learning to do your own printing on our Darkroom Introduction or Darkroom Basics.
