Landscape Photography

The Landscape Photography course is suitable for those of you with a good understanding of camera control, who want to improve the quality of your photographs. You may be a keen amateur photographer who wishes to advance their photography or someone looking to gain professional photography skills. Landscape Photography course is an advanced lesson in photography and is ideal for those who have completed any of our Intermediate or Advanced Photography camera based courses such as Camera Techniques, Medium Format Photography, Large Format Photography and those who have an extremely good understanding of their film or digital cameras manual controls. If you have never really used your 35mm SLR film or digital camera on its manual settings before we would advise you to take either Camera Introduction, Camera Basics and even our Basic Photography from our Beginners Courses, which provides students with a grounding in basic camera skills. Landscape photography concentrates on the techniques and compositional aids of creating great Landscape shots. This landscape photography course will cover different types and formats of cameras suitable for landscape photography, exposure issues relating to working on location. You will learn how to select the most appropriate film to use for the location shoot and compositional techniques to get the most out of the landscape. This course covers theoretical aspects of landscape photography with a practical session on location and concluding with an evaluation session. You might also want to take a look at Camera Techniques, Medium Format and Large Format Photography. Landscape Photography is a short course which looks at issues around working on location taking landscape and environmental still life pictures. Equipment concerns together with weather and sourcing locations will be discussed. There is an initial session at Zoom In followed by a full day at a location within 25 miles of London in the Surrey Hills, and a final session to present the work.

By the end of the course, you will be able to work confidently on location taking landscape and location still life images.

Objectives of the Module
You will look at the different types and formats of cameras suitable for landscape photography. There will be a discussion of specific exposure issues relating to working on location. You will also look at how to read maps and source suitable locations.

Film and Equipment for Landscape Photography (Module 315) Show Details Show Details

Objectives of the Module
You will learn how to select the most appropriate film to use for the location shoot. You will learn what the differences between films for landscape work (black & white or colour) are. You will look at other equipment both photographic and non-photographic that are valuable for location work.

Practical: Landscape Location Shoot (Module 316) Show Details Show Details
  • Shooting Landscapes

Objectives of the Module
You will learn to shoot a series of images on location with direct practical support. Students will meet at a pre-arranged location at a station within 25 miles of London in the Surrey Hills. You will be given hands on tips and tricks to shoot landscape photographs through ongoing supervision and guidance.

Presentation of Landscape Photography (Module 317) Show Details Show Details

Objectives of the Module
You will evaluate and discuss the work produced by yourself and other students on the course. You will present and discuss the work shot on location, this session will take place a couple of weeks after the location shoot. You will be given advice and action for further study of development and ideas.
