Digital Image Manipulation

Digital Image Manipulation is a course in digital imaging software which will enable you to gain a full understanding of the basic tools to further enhace your digital pictures. It is aimed at the novice user and is a good complement to our Digital SLR course. This basic digital image editing course explores how you can improve and enhance your digital shots. A lot of image editing software is very complex and can be both confusing and daunting for the novice user. We will show you the basic tools required for the most common tasks used with photographs and reveal how you can use them to enhance your digital photographs even more.


Aim of the course: Digital Image Manipulation

By the end of the course you will have the basic skills to use digital imaging software with confidence. You will understand about different file formats and file sizes, and be able to crop, re-touch, adjust the colour balance and contrast of your images.

Objectives of the Module
The objective of this module is to become familiar with the work area and a number of basic tools. You will learn how to crop and rotate an image, how to retouch it, how to make parts of the image lighter or darker. You will become skilled at selecting a photograph's specific areas, change their colour and move them on to a different canvas. You will be taught how to adjust the colours, the brightness and contrast in an image so that you can make a flat image with a colour cast stand out with more contrast and remove its colour cast. You will learn how to convert a colour photograph into black and white and introduce some colour into a converted black and white photograph. You will be introduced to layers so that you can work on one part of an image without disturbing the rest, and adjustment layers so that you can apply colour and tonal adjustments to your image. You will finally learn how to save your images, which file format to use and at what resolution.
