This
is run every year by the Metropolitan Police, to provide summer
holiday activities for young people at risk of offending. The
project runs every day during August, and is based at three centres:
one in Brixton, one in Streatham, and one in Kennington. It aims
to provide stimulating and interesting leisure activities, which
help the young people, learn and develop, and at the same time
it seeks to reduce opportunities for offending, by keeping young
people ‘off the streets’. The project is staffed by
a mixture of police officers and volunteers; and various outside
organisations come in and lead particular sessions.
Zoom In ran a weekly photography session at each of the three
projects. The Brixton project included a darkroom session at Zoom
In’s Clapham premises; the rest of the sessions were all
offsite, at the school premises where each project was based.
