Reviews from Students on the Project
:
Said
Damaris,
“ I’m very happy; it’s very interesting, and also good for
my English language skills, listening and speaking. Sometimes if I don’t
understand, other students will help me, but I enjoy having the opportunity to
speak and listen.”
Yared added,
“ I’m happy with the course and got so many things out of it – it
has opened my eyes. I’m going on to learn colour photography at Photofusion.
I didn't plan to have this kind of course – I gained so many things
I didn't expect, and it’s been a big chance for me. I’m planning
to become a professional photographer.”
Alibekit said,
“ It’s good that the teachers trust us to give us equipment to use
by ourselves, and that there’s a camera for every 2 people – it gives
us lots of time to practice shooting.”
Julissa commented,
“ I enjoyed the good atmosphere that the tutor gave us. She was very patient
and supportive.”
and Ugbai said,
“ The course was really important for me. I have learned a lot more than
I expected. I would have liked to get a qualification; a certificate to say I
did the course is good. I would like a list of further courses in photography – different
types of course and qualification you can do.”
Extra activities
Towards the end of the course, the Philharmonic Orchestra approached Zoom In
looking for photographers to help them document a community project they were
running in Kennington, where members of the orchestra and local amateur musicians
got together to produce a concert just before Christmas. Zoom In approached the
students from this course, and four of them elected to go along to a rehearsal
and take photos. They were assisted by Zoom In’s project manager, and by
Ben Ealovega, a professional photographer who does publicity work for the orchestra.
The group enjoyed the experience and decided to also go along to the performance
itself to take pictures. The photos they produced were excellent, and will be
shown at a Philharmonic event on March 3rd 2004. Those who took part are also
hoping to go and document a Family Fun Day event to be run by the Philharmonic
at the South Bank in mid-March.
