Introductions
How do portraits work?
This project will look at the ways that a photographer might show
the kind of person someone is when photographing them. Participants
will look at photographic portraits of people from various backgrounds,
cultures in different photographic styles and consider how the
photographer has used different lighting, angles and other effects
to create an
impression of the person in the picture.
Polaroids and framing:
A chance to consider how we want to represent ourselves and each
other in a photograph. Participants will practice taking Polaroid photos
of each other using some of the different angles and compositional ideas
we have looked at.
35mm SLR camera:
Participants will Learn how to focus, and understand the basics
of how to control exposure, using a manual SLR camera.
Practical Exercise:
Using the skills learned and the ideas discussed,
participants will work in small groups and take self portraits
and/or portraits of each other with SLR cameras. These will be taken
outside
and indoors using studio lighting.
